These hand motif pieces have been made with Valentine’s Day in mind (but can be gifted to yourself or a loved one any day, really!). Hand motif imagery was popular in the Victorian era as a sort of expression through symbolism, to show love, affection and emotion. Primarily worn on jewelry designs, seen on postcards/greetings and could be found on several decorative items of the time. I wanted to play a bit with this idea and create a few small paintings with my own twist on it. This particular hand motif was originally painted with gouache on watercolor paper in greens, lilac and black and light pink with a black snake slithering through purple decorative flowers.
This print has been reproduced from the original and offered as a high quality giclée print, printed on heavy, museum quality 100% cotton rag acid free watercolor paper (Arches brand/310g) , using 100+ year archival pigments.
